Hama'yan - Our Community

It is imperative to the future of Anglo-Jewry that young couples and families and singles are able to live in an affordable community with, a vibrant local economy, excellent transport links to Central London, (and beyond via airports) and excellent medical and urban infrastructure. Cambridge is such a place.

We are committed to providing Jewish Community infrastructure in Cambridge wherever it does not currently exist. Our membership includes academics, musicians, professionals, teachers, families and singles, and couples.

Our Community Centre will include a mikvah, a nursery, meeting and prayer rooms, and a library and resource centre. We are also committed to ensuring the availability of Jewish burial in the region, in strict accordance with Halacha, and we are seeking to secure a freehold burial ground for this purpose.

As part of our Jewish commitment we take environmental issues very seriously: Our mikva is intended to operate on sustainable energy; our nursery will be a disposable nappy free zone and our planned bicycle rack is made from 12,500 recycled aluminium cans!

Based on the analysis of the 2001 census, as at that date, there were in excess of 2,500 Jews living within a 20 mile radius of Cambridge.

We anticipate that our facilities will be of enormous benefit to all Jews in the region, including the Jewish student population of Cambridge.

We also very much look forward to working with the existing Jewish student society in expanding Yiddishkeit in Cambridge.

All are welcome to help us realise our project, whether by joining the community, making a donation, or moving to Cambridge.

Hospitality

Whether you are a visiting academic, a student, or a single professional, a new arrival or tourist in town, or existing residents of Cambridge, we have a Hospitality programme to welcome you. Please be in touch if you would like to be hosted for a Shabbat or Yom Tov meal, or need help in organising B&B accommodation, or locating rental accommodation, or advice on any matter relating to Jewish life.

Please email our Hospitality officer, Ofra, on: ofra.gilinsky@jewishcambridge.org.uk
