Jewish Children's Nursery

The Directors have also been active in consulting local Jewish and Israeli families on the need and desire for a Jewish nursery and after school club in Cambridge. Interest is very high, and the directors can foresee that there will be adequate demand for a full time nursery accommodating up to 15 children between the ages of 0 and 5. It is intended that the nursery will be half day Ivrit b'Ivrit. The Board has started to advertise for a manager for the nursery, and for a Rabbi to provide spiritual guidance. An application has been made to OFSTED.

Detailed architectural plans have been prepared that comply with the Cambridge city plan. The Directors are optimistic that agreement will be reached with the relevant planning authorities for a proportionate and reasonable scheme for a partial change of use of the property. Planning permission has already been granted for the necessary structural changes to the building to accommodate the nursery (picture above), and also for a dropped kerb to facilitate the arrival and departure of any cars dropping and collecting children. The nursery intends to encourage parents to have their children arrive and depart on foot, or by bike or by bus, and will use a bicycle stand constructed out of 2,500 recycled aluminium cans. At peak hours (morning and evening), more than 16 buses pass the front door of our nursery property. The nursery will also be a disposable nappy free zone, using real nappies.

We intend to provide a hot lunch for the children every day. We expect the nursery will operate all day, from 8am to 6:00pm.

If there is a waiting list for children to join the nursery, priority will be given to the children of members, and on the basis of their parents' length of membership.

Transportation

The new extended No.4 bus route, for example, runs to and from the new 1,000 home development at Arbury Park along Milton Road, passing near the science park, and stops in front of our property four times an hour in the morning rush hour. It uses low floor buses, suited for parents with buggies. You can access the timetable here. Our stop is 100 yards north of the 'Arbury Road Union Lane' entry on the timetable.

Commendation from Prof. Moshe Kaveh, President of Bar Ilan University

Dear David,

We were delighted to hear of the announcement of the launch of your new website "HaMa'ayan", which is attractive, user-friendly and informative.

We were especially pleased to hear of the plans for the establishment of a Jewish Nursery, after so many years of attempting to found such an important start in the Jewish education for the preschool children of Cambridge.  As you know this is an issue very close to my heart and I take this opportunity of wishing you and your colleagues every success in its construction.

With best regards
Prof. Moshe Kaveh
President
